5-Day Tanzania Safari Itinerary: Serengeti, Ngorongoro & Tarangire

Planning note: Tanzania trips are best built around real dates, distances and seasonal conditions. This guide explains the decision points so you can ask better questions and avoid choosing a package only from a headline or a generic itinerary.

Five days works best with focus

A five-day safari is long enough for Tanzania’s northern highlights, but only when transfer time is controlled. The strongest routes usually concentrate on three main wildlife areas rather than adding every possible stop. That gives the guide flexibility and gives you more time outside the vehicle at camp or lodge.

Tarangire as an opening day

Tarangire fits naturally on many routes from Arusha or Moshi. It offers a different landscape from Serengeti and is especially known for baobabs and elephant habitat. After the game drive, sleeping toward Karatu or the next route point can make the following morning more efficient.

Serengeti needs proper time

Driving into Serengeti only to leave the next morning rarely does justice to the park. A five-day plan should protect at least meaningful afternoon, full-day and/or morning game-drive windows depending on the entry route. Migration trips may need a different overnight zone from standard central Serengeti itineraries.

Ngorongoro timing

The crater is commonly placed near the end of the circuit. Starting from a nearby lodge helps avoid wasting the best morning hours. Your final day can then continue to Arusha, Moshi or the airport, subject to flight timing.

Private or joining
